Monitoring

image

This is the monitoring page. Here you find links to Status, Settings and ‘Send test alarm’. Monitoring is used to send emails or SMS when temperature, humidity or a digital input changes state. An alarm email/SMS is sent when the row’s state goes from inactive to active. A reset email/SMS is sent when a row’s state goes from active to inactive.

This is the Settings page. (Click the image to zoom). Here are the settings made for the monitoring feature.

There are 20 rows used to set the different monitoring functions. Each row allows for selecting the source(sensor), the alarm and reset levels, filter time and an additional text which will be included in the email.

Source can be temperature and humidity sensors, as well as digital inputs.

Alarm temp/RH/level is used to set the temperature, humidity or input state which cause an alarm email to be sent. Temperatures are in C degrees and can be negative. Humidity is in percent and can be 0-100. Level can be 0=low or 1=high digital input.

Reset temp/RH/level is used to set the temperature, humidity or input state which cause an reset email to be sent. Temperatures are in C degrees and can be negative. Humidity is in percent and can be 0-100. Level can be 0=low or 1=high digital input.

Filter time is the interval in seconds between the state checks. For ex: 10 secs means that a state change must last for at last 10 seconds in order to be registered.

Additional text is added to the alarm/reset email sent. Can be used to identify the source of the alarm.

If Alarm temp/RH/level is greater than Reset temp/RH/level (like in row 3 above) the alarm email will be sent when the temperature/humidity/input is equal or higher than the Alarm temp/RH/level value. The reset email will be sent when the temperature/humidity/input is equal or less than the Reset temp/RH/level value.

If  Reset temp/RH/level is greater than Alarm temp/RH/level (like in row 6 above) the alarm email will be sent when the temperature/humidity/input is equal or less than the Alarm temp/RH/level value. The reset email will be sent when the temperature/humidity/input is equal or greater than the Reset temp/RH/level value.

There are also Email/SMS settings used to send the monitoring emails/SMS:

Settings when using email delivered alarms:

SMTP server is used to set the host name of the server used to send the emails. (Mandatory field)

SMTP port sets the mail sending server’s port. (Mandatory field)

Sender(From) sets the sender’s(consignor’s) email address. The email will appear to come from this address. (Mandatory field)

Receiver(To) sets the receiver’s(recipient’s) email address.  The email will be delivered to this address. (Mandatory field)

Username sets the username if the SMTP server requires authentication. Leave it empty if authentication isn’t necessary.

Password sets the password if the SMTP server requires authentication. Leave it empty if authentication isn’t necessary.

Repeat password is used to verify that Password is  correctly entered.

Settings when using SMS delivered alarms through the SMS gateways at www.smartsms.nu or www.nexmo.com :

Sender(From) sets the sender’s(consignor’s) phone number or alphanumeric identification. The SMS will appear to come from this address. (Mandatory field)

Receiver(To) sets the receiver’s(recipient’s) phone number.  The SMS will be delivered to this number. (Mandatory field)

Username is the username for the account at www.smartsms.nu / www.nexmo.com (Mandatory field)

Password is the password for the account at www.smartsms.nu / www.nexmo.com (Mandatory field)

Repeat password is used to verify that Password is  correctly entered.

Note that for this to work you have to sign up for an account at one of the SMS gateways supported by the Webswitch.

This page shows the status of the different programmed rows, any ongoing email/sms transmission and the last send status.

When an email/sms transmission is in process the page will show the current status and queue. After sending the Last email/SMS status:” will show the status of the email sent.

Note! The way the monitoring works means that the alarm/reset emails/sms can not be guaranteed to be delivered at every send attempt. The Webswitch will add the emails/sms to a queue from which it will try up to 5 times to deliver the email/sms to the SMTP/SMS server. If it can’t deliver the email/sms it will simply remove it from the queue and go on processing any other email/sms in the queue. Also the transition between active and inactive will occur when a successful addition to the email/sms queue has been done, not when the email/sms actually is delivered to the SMTP/SMS server, so that too might cause lost emails/sms.
