Above: First page of the WEB Switch internal web server. In the example it has the IP address 192.168.136.220. To the left is the main menu with links to other internal pages. The picture shows a “extended” Webswitch equipped with the additional software modules, “Car Warm Up”, “Nexa remotes” and “Auto Control Programs”(aka ACP). The Show help button is used to show page specific (external) help.
Note: In version 3.0 and newer the help pages are not loaded in advance any more and so you might notice a delay before that help page is loaded when clicking on the Show help button.
Above: The Login page shown when user name and password are configured, fill in the user name and password and click “Login”. You do not need to login again until you close your browser.
Firmware update can be done via USB using the software Microbit Setup Manager. Download the program and install it on your PC. Start the program. Connect the Webswitch to power and connect the attached USB cable between the Webswitch and the PC. When the connection is established the status will change to “Webswitch connected”.
Click on the “Select file” button and browse to the firmware file(extension “bin”), the name should be something like 1216H_WebSwitch-CRC-v1.5-2010-03-09.bin depending on the version and release date. When you have found the file click on the “Update” button and the uploading of the file to the Webswitch will start. Attention! do not interrupt the upgrade process in any way by for ex. unplugging the power source. After about a 30 sec the update is finished and the Webswitch will restart. When the text “Webswitch connected” shows up again in the lower field of the Setup Manager, you can change to the “FW/HW” tab and check that the unit now shows the latest software version.
Information about how to start the System Setup Manager software is available here =>
Above is the page allowing for firmware upgrade of the Webswitch. The firmware is the Webswitch’s main program.
The Software can be updated over the internet via the web interface when bugs are fixed and/or new functionality is implemented. You don’t have to be where the Webswitch 1216H is to do the updates.
First: Download the new firmware from the firmware page and save the file on your computer. It has a name like “1216H_WebSwitch-CRC-v1.5-2010-03-09.bin” or for newer versions “1216H_WebSwitch-CRC-v1.5-2010-03-09.zip” in which case you need to extract the bin-file inside the zip-file first.
Start your web browser and connect to the Webswitch. Click on the link ‘Application upgrade’ to the left. Click on the ‘Browse’ button and select the file you downloaded a minute ago. When you have found it click on ‘Upgrade’. The new firmware is transferred to the Webswitch and is written into the flash memory. The Webswitch will now restart. Note: Do not interrupt the upgrade process in any way, for ex. by disconnecting the power supply.
After approx 40-50 seconds when the Webswitch successfully has received the firmware the page will show “Firmware file OK, flashing!“. From that point of time the actual update/flashing will typically take less than one minute, so wait one minute and click “System Info” to verify that the new firmware has been applied successfully.
Above is the page which allows upgrading of the Web switch’s bootloader. The bootloader is responsible for booting up the Web switch as well as doing the actual upgrade of the Web switch’s firmware.
“Export settings(txt)” exports the basic edition’s settings to a file in text format.
“Export settings(bin)” exports all settings(all modules) to a file in a binary format. It can be used for backing up a web switch’s settings, or for transferring settings from one unit to another.
“Import settings(bin)” imports all settings(all modules) from a binary file. Note that all existing settings are overwritten!
“Restart device” is used to restart the device
If the WEB-switch is located behind a NAT-router you need to set up a port forwarding in the router to the WEB-switch to make it reachable from the outside. The WEB-switch default IP is 192.168.0.236 and the built in WEB-server is using port 80. IP-address can be changed via USB with the small PC-software called Microbit Setup Manager which you can download on this page. Microbit Setup Manager can also be used to update the firmware.
